New in 2009!
Congo River Expedition Family-Thrill Adventure

Visiting families will be thrilled with the unveiling of Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort’s latest blockbuster sensation, the Congo River Expedition, a multi-sensory jungle adventure scheduled to open this summer.

Deep in the heart of the rainforest guests discover an ancient river teeming with wild animals, restless natives, thundering waterfalls and a mysterious underground diamond mine.

Five-Star Guest Amenities
Schlitterbahn is proud to offer family amenities that include free parking and free inner tubes. Guests are also welcome to bring a family picnic basket, excluding alcohol and glass containers, into the parks.

Schlitterbahn’s 65-acre waterpark and resort complex features more than 40 rides and family activities in six areas, including: three uphill water coasters, nine tube chutes, 17 water slides, the Boogie Bahn bodyboarding ride, a family wave pool, five swimming pools, five hot tubs, seven children's water playgrounds, water and sand volleyball courts, five gift shops, a pizza arcade and 20 refreshment centers.

The 25-acre Schlitterbahn East section, located approximately three blocks from the original Schlitterbahn West, was added in 1991. It includes the Surfenburg section with innovations ranging from the Boogie Bahn bodyboarding ride, to the world's first uphill water coasters. In 1996, the 4-acre Blastenhoff section opened next to Surfenburg with cutting-edge rides like the Torrent River® and the Master Blaster uphill water coaster. Visitors pay one price to enjoy the entire park, and free tram service is provided between the East and West sections.

Schlitterbahn, which means "slippery road" in German, opened in 1979 with four water slides starting from a German-style tower. The tower was patterned after the Bergfried Guard Tower at Solms Castle in Braunfels, Germany – home of the original settlers of New Braunfels. The Henry family built the tower and the slides on a hill next to their riverfront resort called Landa Resort. Schlitterbahn was an early pioneer in promoting the waterpark resort concept which is now popular around the world.

Today Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort has 238 accommodations on or adjacent to the park grounds. The rooms are very popular during the summer, so early reservations are recommended. Guests of Schlitterbahn Resort receive a 20 percent discount on waterpark admission.

BACKGROUND

Four factors set the original Schlitterbahn apart from other waterparks:

Natural riverfront setting – towering trees and the beautiful Comal River
Unique mix of attractions – from miles of tube chutes to high-tech water coasters
Family friendly atmosphere – rides for all ages, picnics welcome, free parking
Resort accommodations on the park grounds – everything from motel rooms to town homes

The unique character of the park has led amusement park fans to vote Schlitterbahn the “World’s Best Waterpark” ten years in a row.  The park’s six-story Master Blaster® uphill water coaster has been voted the “World’s Best Waterpark Ride” again and again.  For the past two years, the park was also voted the “World’s Most Beautiful Waterpark.”
