Turner Named Construction Manager
for Schlitterbahn Vacation Village
in Kansas City, Kansas near Village West

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – Turner Construction/Kansas City has been named as Construction Manager by Schlitterbahn Resorts Worldwide of New Braunfels, Texas for the $750 million Schlitterbahn Vacation Village in Kansas City, Kansas. The Schlitterbahn Vacation Village will be a retail and entertainment destination sited on a 370-acre tract near Village West. The location is bound by State Avenue on the south, Parallel Parkway on the north, Interstate 435 on the west, and 94th Street on the east. The Kansas project is the first expansion outside of Texas for Schlitterbahn. Turner has provided construction management services for the Kansas Speedway and for the Nebraska Furniture Mart located in Village West.

“We are excited to have Turner’s high-level of expertise in construction management working on the largest project in our company’s history,” said David Beardsley, chief executive officer for Schlitterbahn Resorts Worldwide. “Built in America’s Heartland, this world-class destination will be comprised of multiple shopping, dining, lodging and entertainment venues connected by a Transportainment® River System. In the Vacation Village, man-made rivers will carry guests between lodging units, a state-of-the-art family entertainment center, a large year-round Schlitterbahn Water Resort and a Riverwalk with shops and restaurants. We are delighted to have Turner part of our team.”

Dewey Newton, Turner/Kansas City vice president, said, “We’re proud to have been selected by Schlitterbahn Waterpark as Construction Manager for this trend-setting retail and entertainment destination.  Previously Turner was awarded a $140 million contract for providing preconstruction and construction management services for the 1.5 mile Kansas Speedway complex. More recently, in the Village West, we oversaw construction management for the 720,000 square foot Nebraska Furniture Mart as well as its recent expansion. Therefore, we’re pleased to continue our involvement in this area with such a unique project that further enhances an established momentum for greater Kansas City.”

The Water Resort will be one of the world’s largest tubing parks with miles of interconnected rivers and signature attractions such as the Master Blaster® uphill water coaster and Torrent River®. A Riverwalk with lush foliage and winding walkways will feature year-round destination shopping, dining and entertainment.  The Vacation Village will feature more than 1,500 lodging accommodations including a full-service hotel, waterfront cabins, and the unique Treehaus Resort with elevated pods – all integrated within waterpark attractions.

“Turner looks forward to working with Schlitterbahn Resorts Worldwide – the leader in waterpark amusements and family entertainment,” said Newton.

Schlitterbahn opened its flagship park in New Braunfels, Texas in 1979 – featuring more than 40 family attractions and 238 overnight accommodations. Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort is the most popular seasonal waterpark in the United States. It has been rated the world’s number one waterpark by the Travel Channel, and since 1995 it has been the top-attended seasonal waterpark in the United States, according to industry rankings.
