Underway NEW BRAUNFELS, TEXAS – Advanced registration is now underway for the Schlitterbahn New BraunFit Kids’ Triathlon held on Saturday, April 21 at 10 a .m. Children ages 7 to 16 are invited to swim, bike and run in and around the waterpark. Athletes who register before April 1 will receive an event t-shirt as an early registration gift. “At a time when childhood obesity is reaching alarming rates, our goal is to show kids that life-long physical fitness can be fun and rewarding,” said Darren Hill, general manager of Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort, “We make sure every participant feels like a winner. In addition to the self esteem the athletes gain from competing in a real triathlon and raising money for charity, they also receive a finishing medal and a complimentary Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort admission ticket,” Hill added. The fourth annual triathlon is expected to draw nearly 300 kid athletes, and has drawn more than 600 participants during its first three years. Schlitterbahn has teamed up again with New BraunFit to help raise money for the New BraunFit Collaborative Partnership. “We are excited to partner with Schlitterbahn in offering our fitness expertise,” offered Lauren Ramsey, Race Director, “We are happy to be part of a growing event that promotes health and wellness in New Braunfels. Schlitterbahn is a great place to encourage fun and fitness.” New BraunFit, is a collaborative partnership with schools, businesses and organizations to promote nutrition, fitness and wellness. The New BraunFit program encourages men, women and children to adopt a healthier lifestyle and turn the tide of obesity. YMCA of New Braunfels will host two free triathlon camps designed to give children the skills and confidence to compete. The camps will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 31 and on Saturday, April 7. Each camp is staffed by the Schlitterbahn New BraunFit Kids’ Triathlon race director and the fitness experts at the YMCA. To register for the FREE YMCA Triathlon Camps, call the YMCA at 830.606.9622. Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort in New Braunfels opens the weekend after the triathlon event, Saturday, April 28 for weekend operation. Parking is free and outside food and beverages, excluding alcohol and glass containers, may be brought into the park.
