What  to expect on Race Day

Parking: Park in the Schlitterbahn East parking lot on Union St.
Volunteers:
Arrive at 7:00 a.m. for instruction.
Triathletes:
Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m.

Race Day Procedures:  Participants will follow designated signs to each station.

Station 1:  Race Check-In
The transition area opens and participant check-in starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Blastenhoff entrance. Each participant will check-in on race day at the table marked "Race Check-In". The transition area and participant check-in will close at 9:30 a.m.

Station 2:  Bike Check-In & Number Marking
After check-in, each participant will stand in line with age group: 7-10 (Blue), 11-14 (Red). Participants will be marked with their number. Marking will be color-coded according to age group. Participants may then walk their bike and ALL equipment to the transition area for set-up. Volunteers will be in transition area to assist with set-up. NO PARENTS OR SPECTATORS ARE ALLOWED IN THE TRANSITION AREA AT ANY TIME BEFORE OR DURING THE RACE. Each participant should familiarize him or herself with the transition area and take note of bike location. Note entrance and exit for each segment of the race.

Station 3:  Chip Pick-Up
When finished with transition set-up, pick up chip timer at the Run Far timing table. Participant will receive one timing chip and strap per individual participant or one timing chip per relay team. All individual participants will secure their timing chip to their ankle until they reach the finish line. Relay teams will hand-off their chip in the transition area after the swim and bike portions.

Station 4:  Race Start
After picking up timing chip, participant should do one last check to make sure all necessary equipment for the race is in place. Follow the signs marked "Race Start" to the inside of the park for the mandatory pre-race meeting. The meeting will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. A special representative from the city of New Braunfels will make welcoming remarks at 9:45 a.m. and a special guest will kick off the race with the National Anthem. The race will be begin at 10:00 a.m.

Parents & Spectators
Parents and spectators are not allowed in the transition area. Spectators and parents may watch the race from the spectator areas marked on the race map. To watch the finish, spectators may follow the signs marked "To Race Finish" through the Rapids Resort parking lot to the Pavilion.

Swim: Swimsuits are required; goggles are optional. Vests and noodles are permitted if necessary. Swimmers may touch the bottom of the pool to rest but may not advance forward by walking. Swimmers must follow the direction of all race officials so everyone can have a safe and fun race.

The swim start will be in time trial format. The participant will walk over the timing mat to start their race. Ages 7-10 will go first, ages 11-14 will start as soon as the majority of the 7-10 year-olds are finished with the swim.

  • Ages 7-10 will swim up one side of the Torrent and back as shown on the course map.

  • Ages 11-14 will swim one time around the Torrent and out.

After the swim, participant will WALK to the transition area.

Bike: In the first transition, participant will put on helmet, shoes and shirt. Before participant touches their bike, their helmet must be buckled and it must be worn until the finish of the bike portion!

Relay team members will wait for their teammate to enter the transition area to get chip timers before they begin the cycling portion of the race.

There is NO RIDING OR RUNNING PERMITTED IN THE TRANSITION AREA. Mount and dismount at the designated mount line.

  • Ages 7-10 will bike out the gate onto Mather, towards Cypress Bend Park and back to the transition area.

  • Ages 11-14 will bike out the gate onto Mather, towards Cypress Bend Park, back to Washington then turnaround for lap marking and do the course one more time before going back to the transition area. Ages 11-14 must have one mark on their left arm to show they have completed the entire bike course.

All participants must ride on the far right of the road and pass on the left. Yell out "passing on the left" when passing others.

Follow all instructions of race officials and volunteers. Slow down when approaching the turnaround on Union Street and stay alert of motorists and pedestrians.

There will be a water aid station on the bike course.

When finished with the bike ride, get off bike before the dismount line and enter the transition area.

Run: In the second transition, participant will go back to the original slot, re-rack bike, take off helmet and exit the transition area to start the run.

Relay team members will wait for their teammate to enter the transition area and get chip timers before they begin the run portion of the race.

Race number must be on the front of shirt while running.

  • Ages 7-10 will  run the solid green route (on the course map) one time and go straight to the finishing leg (green dotted line).

  • Ages 11-14 will run the solid green route, back to the transition area for lap marking once, then up to the Surfenburg again before splitting off to the finishing leg. Ages 11-14 must have one mark on their right arm to show they have completed the entire run course. Volunteers will be on-site for all "markings".

Participant should pace him or herself and follow the instructions of race officials and volunteers.

There will be a water aid station on the run course.

Finish: Finish strong! All athletes will receive a finisher's medal at the finish line.

Volunteers will be collecting chip timers at the finish. Be sure to turn in your timing device. The replacement fee is $15.00 per chip.

Participants may get some refreshments and enjoy the fun activities at the race expo at the rapids Resort Pavilion. The finishing ceremony will be held around 1:00 p.m. at the Pavilion. Finishing times will be posted and announced at this time and top finisher awards will be distributed.
