The Space Race is ON – Check Out Infinity Racers!

Things are about to get out of this world at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island. We are excited to announce that we’re getting not just one, but two brand new slides!

Meet Infinity Racers coming to Schlitterbahn Galveston Island! A pair of enclosed (mostly) head-first mat racing slides. (this is an artist rendering, obviously). Not shown, Screaming Serpents and Cliff Hanger, which are existing slides on the same tower, giving us a grand total of 5 slides on one tower!

THE RACE IS ON!

Infinity Racers are a pair of racing head-first mat slides that are the brainchild of our GM, Ron Sutula and the water slide designers at WhiteWater West (you may remember them, they built MASSIV, the world’s tallest water coaster). Ron has always been a fan of thrill rides, and he has been kicking around this idea for years.

And this summer, those ideas are becoming reality. Here’s the info from the news release:

At a whopping eight-stories tall and as long as two space stations, Infinity Racers delivers a fun, only one in the world, water slide experience. Both of the racing slides are nearly fully enclosed the entire time (except for the loading and splash zones) with multi-colored fiberglass that creates unique lighting effects inside each slide.

Schlitterbahn chose to add a space theme to the slides in honor of the men and women of NASA and the Johnson Space Center, who have inspired the world to reach for the stars. Given the park’s proximity to the space center, it’s also a salute to the entire region.

The interior of each slide delivers a unique experience as well. One of the slides, named Orbiter, features circles of multi-colored fiberglass in different sections of the ride while the other, Galaxy, features dashes of multi-colored fiberglass. The water slide will open in time to be part of the national celebration of the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

So where is this great pair of slides going to be in the park?

Well, on the left in this picture is the tower with Screaming Serpents and the Cliff Hanger:

Families take time to connect and play at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island

It’s going to wrap around this area and be right across from MASSIV.

And the best part – you’ll be able to race with your friends! No one knows yet which slide, Orbiter or Galaxy, will be the fastest or if it’s all about the slider themselves (weight? style? inherent slipperiness?), but one thing for sure – it’s going to be another record-breaking water ride.\

So you know that this means, right? Go get your season pass now – you’ll want to race all summer!
