Top Misconceptions of a Schlitterbahn Waterpark Employee in the Fall

October 3, 2018

As a Schlitterbahn employee, I get lots of reactions when I tell people that I work at the World’s Best Waterpark. During the summer months, it is pretty consistent with “Oh my god,  that is awesome! ” Obviously. And then summer ends, and things start to get weird. When you tell people that you work at a waterpark in the fall, people look at you questionably and ask, “What in the world DO YOU DO in the fall? I mean,  you’re not even open.”

I have learned that the more I defend my work and elaborate on what I do, the more it sounds like I don’t do anything. Well, I do something, I come up with answers for when people ask me what I do in the fall. (Just in case you didn’t get it, that was a joke.)

So, as waterpark employees, let’s embrace the common misconceptions and share a laugh about them. Or should I say six laughs?

In no particular order, here are some of my favorite misconceptions about being a waterpark employee. Enjoy. I know I did.

1. Once the season is over, we flip the light switch off, take a bow, and walk away.

Peace, we’re out!

2. We take a 9-month vacation.

What would that even look like?!?!?

3. No matter what, when we tell people we work at a waterpark, they automatically assume we’re all lifeguards—everyone from Graphic Designers to Accounting.

Because there’s nothing else to do, right?

4. We have absolutely nothing to do from the end of September to April.

We wish.

5. We all pine away for summer and hot sunny days.

WRONG! I love me some Pumpkin Spice Latte, and that is a Fall exclusive NOW that I pine for.

6. Opening day, we show back up at the waterpark, take the tarp off everything, and turn the light switch back on. We’re back, y’all!

Nope!

Now that we have cleared the air on all of our misconceptions. Let me tell you what goes down in the fall at Schlitterbahn Waterparks.

To be continued…

Stay Tuned!

The waterpark may be closed, but our resorts are open year-round. Maybe it’s time to consider taking that Fall weekend getaway. We’re here with nothing to do. We’ll meet you in the heated pool for an afternoon cocktail. (JK, we’re super busy)
